How Incebethu keeps your society honest

Trust is everything. Here's exactly how Incebethu protects your community's money and your data — without ever holding a cent of it.

We never hold your money

Incebethu is a coordination tool — not a bank, a wallet, or a payment processor. Money never flows through us. Members contribute and treasurers pay out on the rails they already use — cash, Mukuru, EcoCash, Wise, bank transfer — directly between people. We simply keep the record.

Because we never touch the money, there's nothing for us to freeze, lose, or mishandle. Your funds stay in your community's hands at every step; Incebethu just keeps everyone looking at the same honest set of books.

What we store (and what we don't)

What we store

  • Your name and email address
  • Society membership, pools, and the contribution ledger
  • Events, disbursements, and verification history

What we never store

  • Credit or debit card numbers
  • Bank account details
  • ID documents or national ID numbers
  • Passwords (we use AWS Cognito for auth)

No single person controls the money

Each pool of money is held by a treasurer your society appoints — and the only way that custody changes hands is a logged handover, signed off by both treasurers. Every contribution is recorded by one member and verified by another, and every payout against an event is tracked until the books balance. There are no silent edits: the whole society sees the same ledger, so no one person — not even the founder — can move money unseen.

Common questions

Does Incebethu hold or move my money?

No. Incebethu never holds, moves, or processes funds. Members contribute and treasurers disburse directly on whatever rail they choose — cash, Mukuru, EcoCash, Wise, bank. Incebethu only records what happened, so the whole society can see it.

Where is my data stored?

Your account and your society's records are stored securely on AWS (Amazon Web Services) with encryption at rest. We don't store any card or bank-payment data, because no payments run through Incebethu.

Can I delete my account and all my data?

Yes. Contact us and we'll remove your account and personal data. Ledger entries may be retained in anonymised form so your society's historical books stay consistent for the other members.

What happens if Incebethu shuts down?

Nothing happens to your money — because we never held it. Your funds have always lived in your community's own accounts. You'd lose the shared online record, but every cent stays exactly where it already is, with your members and treasurers.

Is my password safe?

We don't store your password at all. Authentication is handled by AWS Cognito, a service used by thousands of apps worldwide. Your password is hashed and encrypted by Cognito — we never have access to it.
